Trong ngày 5/4, Ấn Độ ghi nhận số ca mắc Covid-19 mới cao nhất trong nhiều tháng, giữa lúc nhiều bệnh viện đă quá tải.
Số liệu của Bộ Y tế Ấn Độ cho thấy nước này ghi nhận hơn 103.000 ca mắc Covid-19 mới chỉ trong ngày 5/4, nâng tổng số người mắc Covid-19 của nước này lên 12,6 triệu.
Trong tuần qua, Ấn Độ là nước có số ca nhiễm mới cao nhất thế giới.
Số ca mới được công bố hôm 5/4 cũng đánh dấu lần đầu tiên nước này ghi nhận hơn 100.000 ca mắc mới trong một ngày. Trước đó, số ca mắc hàng ngày cao nhất của Ấn Độ là hơn 97 ngh́n ca. Số ca nhiễm mới của nước này giảm dần từ tháng 9/2020, song đă tăng mạnh trở lại từ cuối tháng 2 khi nền kinh tế được mở cửa trở lại hoàn toàn. Hiện nay, tỷ lệ lây nhiễm mới hàng ngày của nước này đă tăng gấp 12 lần khi so sánh với số liệu của đầu tháng 2.Theo CNA, tại bang Maharashtra, nơi chịu ảnh hưởng nặng nề nhất của dịch Covid-19 tại Ấn Độ, số người mắc Covid-19 mới đă tăng thêm gần 60.000 chỉ trong một đêm.
Các chuyên gia cho biết nguyên nhân của sự gia tăng kỷ lục trên là do chính phủ Ấn Độ đă nới lỏng hầu hết hạn chế, trong khi người dân nước này coi thường việc đeo khẩu trang và giăn cách xă hội.

Nhằm ứng phó với t́nh trạng trên, chính phủ Ấn Độ sẽ bắt đầu đóng cửa các khu thương mại, rạp phim, quán bar, nhà hàng và các nơi thờ cúng từ tối 5/4. Một lệnh đóng cửa hoàn toàn sẽ được ban hành vào cuối tuần, trong bối cảnh nhiều bệnh viện đă quá tải.
Ấn Độ cũng tăng cường công tác tiêm chủng trong những tuần gần đây, với hơn 3 triệu mũi tiêm được cấp mỗi ngày. Các quan chức y tế nước này dự định sẽ hoàn thành việc tiêm pḥng cho 300 triệu người vào tháng 8, song giới chuyên gia cho rằng tiến độ tiêm chủng cần được đẩy nhanh hơn để ngăn chặn sự lây lan của đại dịch.
