Ít nhất 330 con mèo ở Anh đă chết v́ một căn bệnh hiếm gặp có thể liên quan đến chất độc trong thức ăn dành cho mèo đă bị thu hồi gần đây, ABC News đưa tin.
Các chuyên gia của Đại học Thú y Hoàng gia Anh (RVC) cho rằng cái chết của mèo có thể liên quan đến nhăn hiệu thức ăn Fold Hill Foods dành cho thú cưng đă bị thu hồi. Thực tế là trong một số lô sản phẩm của loại thức ăn này phát hiện thấy có chất độc nguy hiểm.
Theo dữ liệu sơ bộ, sau khi động vật ăn vào, số lượng tế bào hồng cầu và bạch cầu, thậm chí cả tiểu cầu, đều giảm mạnh. Các nhà khoa học gọi t́nh trạng này là pancytopenia (giảm tất cả các loại tế bào máu), và nó thường gây tử vong.
ABC News cho biết, tính đến ngày 2/8 vừa qua, ít nhất 528 trường hợp giảm tiểu cầu ở mèo đă đă được báo cáo. Theo RVC, tỷ lệ tử vong trong số này 63,5%; nhưng số trường hợp thực tế có thể cao hơn nhiều.

ABC News cho biết thêm, đại diện Cơ quan quản lư tiêu chuẩn thực phẩm (FSA) của Anh nhấn mạnh rằng những con mèo mắc căn bệnh truyền nhiễm nguy hiểm này không lây cho người.
“Chúng tôi không có bằng chứng cho thấy đợt bùng phát căn bệnh này gây nguy hiểm cho sức khỏe con người”, thông báo của FSA nêu rơ.
