Updated : The district just called to apologize and explain the situation. In addition, the principal of the new school called and was very kind — he will personally give us a tour to introduce the school. However, the principal of Parkview School has not yet contacted us to explain.
Garden Grove Unified School District, this is not how you treat a child. We have already sent letters to both the district and the principal of Parkview Elementary, and we are awaiting their response.
My 5-year-old daughter, Alexa Nguyen, started Special Education Pre-K at Parkview Elementary yesterday with no issues.
This morning, only 5 minutes after drop-off, I got a call to pick her up — the school claimed they had “no room” for her and told us to take her to Warren School instead.
When I arrived, she was sitting in the office waiting, as if she’d been removed without warning. At Warren, they had no record of her enrollment and didn’t know what happened.
As the mother of a child with ADHD and autism, I find this treatment unacceptable, disrespectful, and harmful. Transitions for special-needs children require care, not sudden disruption. My daughter is now home, without a school placement, because of the district’s poor planning and communication.
As parents, we are both educators and professors at the college level, and we find this treatment highly disrespectful and unprofessional. Our daughter is only 5 years old, nothing happened to warrant this removal ,and the lack of communication and planning has left her without a school placement today. This is our first time enrolling my younger daughter, Alexa Nguyen, in public school. Her sister, Amanda, has been attending Sant Columban Catholic School for three years. We trusted the district to handle Alexa’s special education placement with care and professionalism.
