Dân số Việt Nam đã tăng trưởng mạnh trong nhiều thập kỷ qua. Kể từ năm 1975 với 48,7 triệu dân, sau 46 năm, trung bình mỗi năm Việt Nam tăng hơn 1 triệu người. Theo thống kê mới nhất của World Meters thì dân số VN hiện đã đạt hơn: 98.154.000 người

Theo ước lượng dân số VN sẽ vượt 100 triệu vào năm 2023. Tuy nhiên sau mức này dân số sẽ không nhiều nữa, dự trù 2030 đạt 104 triệu, 2040 là 107,8 triệu và năm 2050 là gần 110 triệu và đây là mốc được coi là chấm dứt tăng trưởng nóng về dân số khi lúc này mỗi năm dân số VN sẽ chỉ tăng dưới 100 ngàn.

Thời kỳ dân số vàng VN khi người trẻ nhiều hơn người trung niên và người già sẽ chấm dứt vào khoảng 2035. Số tuổi thọ trung bình VN ngày nay đạt 76 năm.
