Lần đầu tiên con người được quan sát quá trình cá mập sinh con trong điều kiện nuôi nhốt.

Một con cá mập cái sống tại trung tâm cá voi và cá mập Yantai Haichang, tỉnh Sơn Đông, Trung Quốc đã sinh hạ một con cá mập đực con khỏe mạnh.
Cá mập mới sinh thường dễ bị tấn công bởi những con cá mập trưởng thành khác, nên ngay sau đó, cá mập con đã được chuyển tới một bể riêng sinh sống cho tới khi đủ lớn để sống cùng mẹ và đồng loại.
