Arrow Vietnam suggests Pfizer cooperate in COVID-19 treatment drug production

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc has asked Pfizer Inc., one of the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms to cooperate with the nation in the production of COVID-19 treatment drugs and promote the supply of its effective and safe vaccine for children.

The ASEAN Committee in Washington, D.C., along with ambassadors and representatives of all 10 ASEAN member states in the US, including ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc recently had a meeting with Stephen Claeys, Senior Director, Trade Policy at Pfizer, on cooperation between Pfizer and Southeast Asian countries.

Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc glowingly spoke of Pfizer's support to Vietnam, asked the firm to fulfill its commitment to supply 51 million doses of its vaccine in 2021 and continue to discuss with Vietnamese agencies about vaccine supply for next year.

During the meeting, the Vietnamese diplomat and and representatives of other countries such as the Philippines and Singapore, shared Vietnam's views on how Pfizer should build a production base in Southeast Asia that is viewed as a fast-growing and dynamic region.

The participants suggested tripartite cooperation between Pfizer, ASEAN and the US government in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, while asking Pfizer to continue supporting countries in living safely with the pandemic and preparing for other pandemics in the future.

For his part, Stephen Claeys acknowledged the positive contributions of ASEAN member states, and said that Pfizer will carry out all signed commitments, including those with Vietnam.
