Leading into the week, the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll showed Trump with 53% disapproval and 45% approval while the latest right-leaning Rasmussen Reports survey showed Trump with 53% disapproval and 46% approval. An Economist/YouGov survey had Trump at 53% disapproval and 45% approval.
The latest Politico/Morning Consult survey provided the most discouraging numbers for Trump, with 57% disapproval and 40% approval. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Trump at 55% disapproval to 43% approval.
Trump has been frequently criticized for his response to the coronavirus. He has often touted the strength of the U.S. economy as key to his reelection, but more than 40.8 million Americans have applied for unemployment since mid-March amid the pandemic.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden currently has a lead over Trump in recent polls.
An ABC News/Washington Post survey shows Biden at 53% and Trump at 43%, while an Economist/YouGov poll shows Biden at 45% and Trump at 42%. These two general election polls were conducted before the demonstrations escalated this weekend.
