Arrow COVID-19: Daily caseload falls to nearly 12,000, over 12,500 more recover

Vietnam has confirmed 11,932 coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, down by nearly 1,400 cases compared to the previous day, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 06.00pm coronavirus update on September 11.

Of the new infections, 5,169 cases were detected in the community through test screening or random testing, five tested positive upon returning to Vietnam from overseas, and the rest were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas.

Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, the two largest coronavirus hotspots, registered 5,629 and 3,971 new cases respectively, accounting for four fifths of the total.

They were followed by Dong Nai with 960 new cases, Long An 337, Kien Giang 165, Tien Giang 147, Tay Ninh 137, and An Giang 107, all in the south.

Elsewhere, Khanh Hoa topped central localities in infection number, recording 46, while Quang Binh and Quang Ngai reported 38 and 32 more cases respectively.

Among three northern localities that reported new infections, Hanoi capital took the lead with 35 cases.

As of 06.00pm on September 11, Vietnam has recorded 601,349 coronavirus cases since the start of the outbreak in January 2020, and 596,980 locally acquired infections following the resurgence of the virus more than four months ago.

Of the total, 360,688 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease, including 12,541 recoveries announced on September 11.

The MoH has also confirmed 217 COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, with HCM City and Binh Duong reporting 188 and 10 fatalities respectively.

The September 11 figure has raised the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Vietnam to 15,018, making up 2.5% of the total number of infections and 0.4% higher than the average death rate globally.
