On February 1, the Myanmar army arrested President Win Myint, State Advisor
Aung San Suu Kyi and a series of high-ranking officials of the National Coalition for Democracy (NLD). The military took control of the country, quickly met with strong popular opposition and outside concern.
Dead people, conflict and crisis
Starting in two major cities, Yangon and Mandalay, the protests have spread across Myanmar in many forms. The violence became fierce after protesters were shot dead by security forces of the military government. To date, more than 700 people have been killed in protests against the military government, and more than 3,800 have been arrested, prosecuted or sentenced to prison, according to the Association for Support of Political Prisoners. show though the heat is believed to have subsided, and the "pan of fire" has moved to border areas in recent weeks. According to the South China Morning Post, clashes between Myanmar military forces and armed minorities have increased significantly. The two most prominent armed groups, Kachin in the north and Karen in the east, have declared their support for the protest movement and will continue to fight, despite the military government's response by fire.

After 100 days, Myanmar is still in a multi-faceted crisis. Inside Myanmar, there is an opposition organization set up by former government parliamentarians, but considered by the military authorities to be terrorists. The socio-economic activities that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic are now more difficult. According to a report from a survey of foreign trade bureaus in Myanmar, 13% of businesses in Myanmar have stopped all operations since the coup. In addition, about a third of businesses have reduced at least 75% of their production activities, 21% decreased from 50 - 75% and only 5% still operate as before, according to Nikkei Asia reported.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in early May warned that if the economic and security situation does not stabilize soon, 25 million Burmese (48% of the population) could live in poverty until five 2022. Rising food prices, declining incomes, deteriorating basic services, inadequate social security systems for the people can push millions of Burmese in difficult circumstances below the poverty line, according to CNN.
Myanmar has not "opened up"
Faced with the instability, the international community has expressed concern, in which ASEAN is said to play an important role in contributing a voice to remove the deadlock in Myanmar. At the end of April, leaders of ASEAN countries held a special high-level meeting in Jakarta (Indonesia), agreed on many points related to crisis settlement in Myanmar. Accordingly, the leaders agreed to call for an immediate cessation of the violence and the full restraint of all parties; dialogue between stakeholders to find peaceful solutions for the benefit of the people; ASEAN special envoy will support the dialogue process; ASEAN will provide humanitarian assistance and special envoys and delegations will travel to Myanmar to meet the stakeholders. The UN Security Council subsequently adopted a statement in support of ASEAN.
Myanmar's Governor General - General Min Aung Hlaing, when attending the air conference, objected to ASEAN's constructive role as well as the special envoy to Myanmar. However, the Myanmar military government announced on July 7 that it would only receive the ASEAN special envoy when the domestic situation was stable and Myanmar would only consider the proposals at the conference if it was useful to the country's vision.
