Mua bán dầu khí (gas) từ nhiều nguồn cung cấp để có được giá cả thuận lợi tùy theo nơi cung cấp. Chí phí vận chuyển dầu khí sẽ làm giá cả nâng cao. V́ thế Canada và Mỹ sẽ nhập khẩu nơi cung cấp gần nhất/rẻ nhất để tối ưu hóa giá cho người tiêu dùng do đó Mỹ và Canada vẫn phải nhập khẩu dầu khí từ Nga hay các nước khác cho các khu vực bờ đông hay bờ tây quá xa với nơi sản xuất dầu của chính ḿnh ( Canada và US trăi rộng đất nước trên 6 múi giờ - 6000 km)
