Lănh tụ tối cao Khamenei nói Iran đă cho Mỹ "ăn một cái tát" sau khi quân đội nước này đă phóng tên lửa vào hai căn cứ Mỹ ở Iraq.

"Đêm qua, một cái tát đă được gửi đi", lănh tụ tối cao Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei phát biểu trực tiếp trên truyền h́nh nhà nước hôm nay, đề cập đến đ̣n tập kích tên lửa của lực lượng Vệ binh Cách mạng Hồi giáo Iran (IRGC) nhắm vào hai căn cứ có lính Mỹ đồn trú ở Iraq rạng sáng 8/1. Ông nhấn mạnh rằng cuộc tấn công vào các căn cứ Mỹ ở Iraq đă thành công.

Theo Khamenei, Iran là một nước ḥa b́nh không muốn leo thang với bất kỳ quốc gia nào, nhưng đă chuẩn bị để đối phó với "những kẻ bắt nạt trên thế giới". Tuy nhiên, ông cho rằng vụ tấn công chưa đủ để loại bỏ sự hiện diện của Mỹ khỏi khu vực, đồng thời tuyên bố dứt khoát rằng Tehran xem Washington là kẻ thù.

Tổng thống Iran Hassan Rouhani cũng đưa ra tuyên bố cho rằng Mỹ có thể đă "chặt đứt cánh tay" của Iran khi "ám sát" tướng Qassem Soleimani, tư lệnh lực lượng đặc nhiệm Quds của IRGC, nhưng Iran sẽ đáp trả bằng cách "chặt chân" của Mỹ trong khu vực.

IRGC rạng sáng nay đă phóng ít nhất 15 tên lửa đạn đạo tấn công hai căn cứ Ain al-Asad và Irbil ở Iraq. Căn cứ Ain al-Asad và Irbil đều là các cơ sở quân sự của chính phủ Iraq và chỉ có một phần lực lượng Mỹ cùng liên quân chống IS đồn trú.

Vụ tập kích diễn ra sau khi lănh tụ tối cao Iran thề "trả thù khốc liệt" cho tướng Soleimani, người thiệt mạng trong cuộc không kích bằng máy bay không người lái của Mỹ ở thủ đô Baghdad, Iraq hôm 3/1. Soleimani là đồng minh thân cận và người bạn thân thiết của lănh tụ Iran Khamenei.
