(Washington Post) – Chủ tịch Hạ viện Nancy Pelosi vào tối thứ Ba gởi tuyên bố hồi đáp Toà Bạch Ốc, gọi lá thư của Cố vấn pháp lư Pat Cipollone “quá sai,” chẳng qua đơn giản là “một nỗ lực bất hợp pháp khác nhằm che dấu sự thật chính phủ Trump nỗ lực gây áp lực để lực lượng bên ngoài can thiệp vào bầu cử 2020.”

“Trong thời gian dài, Tổng thống t́m cách b́nh thường sự vô pháp,” bà Pelosi tuyên bố. “Bây giờ th́ ông ta t́m cách biến sự vô pháp thành đức tánh tốt. Nhân dân Mỹ đă nghe từ chính miệng Tổng thống nói – ‘làm ơn giúp chúng tôi.’ Hành động của Tổng thống đe doạ an ninh quốc gia, vi phạm Hiến pháp và làm suy yếu tính toàn vẹn của bầu cử chúng ta.”

Chủ tịch Hạ viện nói thêm, “Toà Bạch Ốc được cảnh báo rằng, những nỗ lưc tiếp tục che dấu nhân dân sự thật về việc Tổng thống lạm quyền sẽ được xem là bằng chứng thêm nữa về cản trở. Ngài Tổng thống, ông không đứng trên luật pháp. Ông sẽ bị buộc chịu trách nhiệm.”

Bà Pelosi đưa ra tuyên bố sau khi nhận được thư từ Toà Bạch Ốc, trong đó thông báo chính phủ sẽ không hơp tác với cuộc điều tra luận tội v́ cuộc điều tra này “bất hợp pháp.” Một loạt các nhà lập pháp Dân chủ lên mạng Twitter chỉ trích lá thư của luật sư Cipollone.

Trước đó không lâu, Chủ tịch 3 Uỷ ban T́nh báo Hạ viện, Đối ngoại Hạ viện và Uỷ ban Giám sát Hạ viện chính thức tống trát đ̣i Đại sứ EU Gordon Sondland ra khai vào 9h30′ sáng ngày 16 tháng 10, và giao nộp tài liệu vào ngày 14 tháng 10.

Thêm diễn biến mới, cựu Dân biểu Cộng hoà Trey Gowdy dự tính sẽ tham gia vào ban cố vấn pháp lư đối phó với điều tra luận tội với tư cách là luật sư tư. Ông Gowdy đă gặp quyền Đổng lư Toà Bạch Ốc Mick Mulvaney vào hôm thứ Ba.

Gowdy là cựu Chủ tịch Uỷ ban Giám sát Hạ viện, từng lănh đạo cuộc điều tra kéo dài 2 năm của Hạ viện vào cuộc tấn công khủng bố 2012 vào cơ sở ngoại giao của Mỹ ở Benghazi, Libya. Giống như nhiều người trong ṿng thân cận của Trump, ông ta thường xuyên lên Fox News bênh vực tổng thống, trước vào sau khi rời Hạ viện vào tháng 1 năm 2019.
