(Fox News) – Hàng tháng trời, Tổng thống Donald Trump và đồng minh đặt nghi vấn liệu đối thủ tranh cử 77 tuổi Joe Biden có mất sự sắc bén trí tuệ và liệu cựu Phó Tổng thống có sức bền để phục vụ quốc gia trong vai tṛ Tổng Tư Lệnh hay không. Tuy nhiên, kết quả thăm ḍ quốc gia cho thấy nhiều người Mỹ tin tưởng vào năng lực tinh thần và thể chất của cựu Phó Tổng thống hơn đương kim Tổng thống 74 tuổi.


Theo khảo sát của Trường đại học Monmouth được công bố vào thứ 5, 52% cử tri ghi danh tin tưởng vào sức bền tinh thần và thể chất của ông Biden để thực hiện công việc đ̣i hỏi rất cao của một vị tổng thống. Trong khi chỉ 45% cử tri tham gia thăm ḍ tin tưởng như vậy vào ông Trump.

Tuy nhiên, 1/3 lại “rất tin tưởng” đương kim Tổng thống có tinh thần và thể chất phù hợp để thực hiện công việc, so với 23% “rất tin tưởng” dành cho Biden.

Tổng thống vào tháng 5 trong một cuộc phỏng vấn trên WJLA-TV đă tố cáo cựu Phó Tổng thống “không sắc bén đủ để trở thành tổng thống,” và Biden “không biết ông ta c̣n sống.”

Xuất hiện trên Fox News vào tháng trước, ông Trump tuyên bố “Joe ở đâu đâu, không có ở đó. Mọi người đều biết. Và thật là buồn khi quư vị nh́n và trông thấy như vậy.”

Khi được xướng ngôn viên Dough McKelway của Fox News hỏi tại buổi họp báo hồi đầu tuần liệu ông có kiểm tra suy giảm nhận thức hay không, Biden đáp, “Tôi thường xuyên xét nghiệm.” Cựu Phó tổng thống nhấn mạnh, “Tôi hầu như không thể chờ được để so sánh năng lực nhận thức của ḿnh với năng lực nhận thức của người mà tôi đang tranh cử.”

Trước đó vài phút, khi chỉ trích Trump nhấn mạnh ông ta không được t́nh báo báo cáo về những tường tŕnh Nga đề nghị tiền thưởng cho Taliban sát hại lực lượng Mỹ, Biden cáo buộc “Vị Tổng thống này nói về năng lực nhận thức, ông ta dường như không nhận thức được những ǵ đang diễn ra.”

Cả Trump và Biden lâu nay đều bị chỉ trích v́ những phát biểu rời rạc, lan mang, và cả nói hớ.

Những nghi vấn về sức khỏe đương kim tổng thống lại một lần nữa tràn ngập trong những tuần vừa qua, sau những h́nh ảnh tại buổi lễ phát bằng trường Đại học Quân sự West Point.

Đoạn băng cho thấy ông Trump từ từ, cẩn thận đi xuống từ bục khi Hiệu trưởng West Point, Trung tướng Darryl A. Williams đi bên cạnh được lan truyền với tốc độ chóng mặt, và thúc đẩy truyền thông tràn ngập những câu hỏi về sức khoẻ của Tổng thống. (Ông Trump dành hơn 1700 từ, lôi câu chuyện này ra chế giễu tại buổi tập hợp vận động tranh cử ở Tulsa, Oklahoma.)

Thăm ḍ của Đại học Monmouth được các nhân viên tổng đài điện thoại đặt câu hỏi trực tiếp với 867 cử tri ghi danh trên cả nước từ ngày 26-30 tháng 6. Khảo sát có sai số cộng, trừ 3,6%.
