ROME – Ngoại trưởng Hoa Kỳ Mike Pompeo xác nhận hôm thứ Tư rằng ông đă nghe cuộc điện đàm giữa Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump và nhà lănh đạo Ukraine

Cuộc điện đàm là tâm điểm khiếu nại từ một viên chức t́nh báo Mỹ, dẫn đến việc Hạ viện Mỹ do đảng Dân chủ kiểm soát mở cuộc điều tra luận tội Trump. Ủy ban Đối ngoại, Ủy ban T́nh báo và Ủy bán Giám sát Hạ viện hôm 27/9 yêu cầu Pompeo cung cấp tài liệu liên quan cuộc gọi, cũng như điều trần tại Hạ viện cùng 5 quan chức đương nhiệm hoặc cựu quan chức Bộ Ngoại giao

“Tôi đă có mặt trong cuộc gọi Trump – Zelensky” ông Pompeo nói với các phóng viên trong chuyến thăm Ư, xác nhận các báo cáo truyền thông trước đó.

Ông Pompeo nói rằng những cuộc điện đàm của ông Trump xoay quanh về chính sách của Mỹ, bao gồm cắt giảm tham nhũng ở quốc gia Đông Âu này, thúc đẩy nền kinh tế và “gỡ bỏ mối đe dọa mà Nga đặt ra ở Ukraine”.

“Tôi biết chính xác chính sách của Mỹ đối với Ukraine là ǵ, nó rất nhất quán. Chúng tôi sẽ tiếp tục cố gắng thúc đẩy các kết quả đó”, ông Pompeo nói.

Pompeo không trả lời một câu hỏi về việc ông có nghe thấy bất cứ điều ǵ trong cuộc gọi liên quan giưa TT Trump và Tổng thống Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky

Sự liên quan của Ngoại trưởng Pompeo chưa từng được đề cập trước đây. Thông tin này đẩy Bộ Ngoại giao Mỹ ch́m sâu vào tranh căi liên quan đến cáo buộc Trump gây sức ép buộc chính phủ nước ngoài can thiệp bầu cử tổng thống năm 2020.

Ngoại trưởng Mike Pompeo vào hôm thứ Ba thông báo cho Hạ viện Dân chủ biết, những nhân viên ngoại giao được yêu cầu ra điều trần trước các uỷ ban điều tra luận tội sẽ không đến như dự tính.

Thư từ chối để nhân viên ra điều trần được Pompeo gởi cho 3 uỷ ban Hạ viện giữa cơn băo tweets của Tổng thống Donald Trump, trong đó có câu hỏi tại sao ông ta lại “không được thẩm vấn và t́m hiểu mọi điều về người tố giác” hiện đang được luật pháp bảo vệ danh tánh.

Chủ tịch ba uỷ ban Hạ viện vào chiều thứ Ba gởi ra tuyên bố đáp trả, kêu gọi Ngoại trưởng “nên ngay lập tức chấm dứt doạ nạt nhân chứng” tại Bộ Ngoại giao nhằm “bảo vệ bản thân và Tổng thống.”

Pompeo đang có chuyến đi kéo dài ba ngày tới Ư, sau đó, ông sẽ bay đến Montenegro, Bắc Macedonia và Hy Lạp. Nhưng chuyến đi đă bị lu mờ bởi cuộc điều tra luận tội của Hạ viện
