Đến khi ăn xong, cô gái người Việt 100% tiếp tục màn thể hiện khi đứng dậy thanh toán và hỏi chị chủ hàng “How much chị?”.
Việc học sinh Việt Nam ra nước ngoài học tập, rồi tập luôn cho ḿnh thói quen Tây hóa đă không c̣n xa lạ trong giới du học sinh. Quá tŕnh Tây hóa này diễn ra khá đa dạng và phong phú, theo nhiều cách khác nhau khi các bạn trẻ ḥa nhập và làm quen với cuộc sống mới. Khi ở nước bạn, họ phải ḥa nhập, rồi dần bị tác động bởi môi trường xung quanh, điều đó không có ǵ là sai, thậm chí c̣n tốt cho quá tŕnh học tập, sinh sống.
Thế nhưng, khi kết thúc thời gian học hành, trở về Việt Nam, nhiều người trẻ không hiểu v́ cố t́nh hay vô ư mà luôn tỏ ra "quên" cả tiếng Việt, không biết cách diễn đạt từ ngữ, câu cú trọn vẹn bằng tiếng mẹ đẻ. Dùng tên nước ngoài chưa đủ, họ c̣n tỏ ra ngô nghê mỗi khi phải dùng tiếng Việt, thường xuyên chêm tiếng anh vào câu b́nh thường, trong khi thời gian họ du học chỉ vỏn vẹn 2 - 3 năm đă khiến người xung quanh không khỏi khó chịu.
Trên một diễn đàn dành cho giới trẻ, thành viên tên Cat kể lại câu chuyện về cô bạn từng đi du học 3 năm, chẳng hiểu học nhiều đến mức nào mà quên cả từ ngữ tiếng Việt, đă gây ra nhiều tranh căi.

Topic kể lại câu chuyện về một cô gái mới du học 3 năm đă quên tiếng Việt.
Cat kể, khi đưa bạn đi ăn chè, cô bạn đó mở màn ngay bằng câu: “Ui, lâu không gặp mày nhớ mày quá. Hè tao mới có time về VN enjoy. Đi ăn ǵ đi, tao mệt quá!”, Cat đă thấy chướng tai. Đến khi vào hàng chè mà ngày xưa cả hai hay ăn, cô bạn tiếp tục: “Đây là cái ǵ hả mày, trông có vẻ hơi có phẩm màu đấy, an toàn không? Ăn được không? Có vẻ unsafe”.
Lúc này, Cat bắt đầu khó chịu v́ sự ra vẻ… quên cả món chè, nói chuyện th́ chêm tiếng Anh như kiểu xa nước lâu lắm của bạn. Đến khi ăn xong, cô bạn kia tiếp tục màn thể hiện khi đứng dậy thanh toán và hỏi chị chủ hàng: “How much chị?”.
Tỏ ra khó chịu với kiểu nói chuyện “ngất ngây” của bạn, Cat góp ư th́ cô bạn kia thanh minh: “Thực sự 3 năm qua đi du học nên có những từ bị quên mất”. Cat đành lên diễn đàn lập topic để hỏi xem có đúng dân du học sẽ quên mất tiếng mẹ đẻ sau 1 vài năm ngắn ngủi xa nước hay chỉ là thể hiện, “làm tṛ”. Đa phần các thành viên trả lời trong topic đều cho rằng, có sinh ra ở nước ngoài, kể cả lớn lên trong môi trường ngoại quốc th́ “cái gốc” không bao giờ mất đi được.
Rất nhiều bạn trẻ c̣n cố gắng tự học tiếng Việt và nói thành thạo khi giao tiếp bằng tiếng Việt, mặc dù họ định cư ở nước bạn. Thế th́ lư ǵ, những công dân trẻ mới sang nước ngoài học tập được 1 vài năm lại cho ḿnh cái quyền quên cả tiếng Việt, không diễn đạt một câu trọn vẹn mà không chèn tiếng Anh?
Topic thu hút nhiều sự quan tâm của cư dân mạng, một vài ư kiến bênh vực người bạn của Cat như: “Ḿnh là dân ngoại ngữ ra, chả đi Tây bao giờ nhưng nhiều lúc đệm tiếng Anh vào cho nó đơn giản, v́ đôi lúc nói 1 từ tiếng Anh nhưng nếu giải thích ra tiếng Việt th́ dài ḍng lắm. Ví dụ cái khách sạn đấy boutique phết. Đơn giản bọn nước ngoài nó hiểu boutique là "xinh xinh, không hoành tráng nhưng sang trọng mà giá cả chấp nhận được...", như vậy nói boutique cho nó tiện”.
Nhưng phần lớn thành viên khác th́ cho rằng, trong trường hợp này, người bạn của nickname Cat đang “làm tṛ, thể hiện” bởi: “Đi 3 năm không thể quên được vốn tiếng Việt. Thà nói tiếng Anh từ bé c̣n chấp nhận được”, thành viên Hoàng Mai chia sẻ.
Những người trẻ mắc bệnh “vô tư thái quá” như trường hợp trên không phải là hiếm trong thời buổi bây giờ, xin lưu ư họ khác với dân văn pḥng sử dụng Anh ngữ thường xuyên, hoặc người sống ở nước ngoài đă lâu. Họ chỉ là dân du học diện học tiếng, thạc sĩ, học chuyên ngành trong ṿng 1 tới 3-4 năm, thế nhưng đă vội quên luôn cách tŕnh bày câu cú bằng tiếng mẹ đẻ. Không phải ai cũng thoải mái khi nghe ngôn ngữ song song Anh – Việt kiểu này, V.Nam (21 tuổi) kể rằng cậu từng “đốp” thẳng vào mặt một đứa bạn cũng giả vờ quên tiếng Việt, bởi khó chịu trước sự “làm tṛ” kệch cỡm.
P.Hồng, bạn của Nam sang Anh học cao đẳng, tính cả 1 năm học tiếng th́ mới được 2 năm. Hè vừa rồi, Hồng về chơi, tranh thủ tụ tập đám bạn ăn uống, buôn chuyện. Cả buổi đi chơi hôm ấy, cô gái này liên tục nói “song ngữ” kiểu: “Tao thích mua đồ ở boutique, chứ lang thang shop linh tinh, gặp toàn chủ hàng không “nice”, “unhappy” lắm”, đi ăn th́ đ̣i “ăn chicken leg đi mày” hoặc cô ngồi quấy quấy cốc cafe lên, thấy miếng thạch cứ liên mồm hỏi “What what what??” khiến bạn bè không khỏi khó chịu. Hồng mới sang London vỏn vẹn 2 năm nhưng nh́n cái cách cô “ố, á” với mọi thứ xung quanh cứ như Việt kiều xa quê hương chục năm có lẻ.
Đến khi Hồng cứ liên tục “tao không happy lắm nếu thế này, thế kia” th́ Nam chịu hết nổi, cậu hỏi đểu: “Mày nói tiếng song ngữ cứ như dân Mỹ ư nhờ?”. Cô bạn tỏ ra ngây thơ: “Sao lại America? Tao ở London, English chuẩn mà!”. Nam lúc này mới nói thẳng: “Ư tao là Mỹ Tho ư! Học được 2 năm cứ làm như 20 năm, nghe chướng tai quá!”. Cô bạn hôm đó được một phen tím mặt, về sau chẳng thấy quên tiếng Việt nữa mà nói câu nào ra câu đấy.
Nam chia sẻ, nơi cậu làm thêm hiện tại cũng trong môi trường trẻ, sử dụng Anh ngữ thường xuyên nhưng đó là từ ngữ bắt buộc cho công việc, chứ không phải loại “song ngữ” nửa mùa như dân mới đi du học kiểu này. Với Nam, đây là bệnh thích thể hiện chứ không phải do quên hay quen miệng mà thành!

cái này gọi là show-off th́ đúng hơn . Nhiều người ở nước ngoài, tiếng Anh của họ c̣n giỏi hơn tiếng việt nam, vậy mà lúc về lại việt nam họ không nói một chữ tiếng Anh. C̣n cái lũ này là vịt kiều ba láp, ba xàm đi du học ở nước ngoài có vài năm (mà lúc đi đă hai mươi mấy hay thậm chí ba mươi mấy tuổi), vậy mà về việt nam nói toàn tiếng Anh. đúng là thùng rổng kêu to

What is it to be vietnamese? Is the only or critical criteria is to speak the current day CSVN tongue?

Well, isn't that special. Using this same logic, then there is no more VN people since no one alive can speak the original VN native tongue many thousand of yrs. ago according to our history. The argument to speak the current CSVN, forked tongue is absurd since they themselves had already killed of many educated and professional people during the 1950's and then post 1975's eras. And that's not even going back century and century ago! The resultant modern day VN language is only a conglomeration of old VN, chinese, purtugese, french and american linguistics.

In regards to the supposed intent of mixed,intersperse English & VN verbiage, the simple answer would be "for convenience sake" due to patterns in modern day small talks, idioms usage, ebonics and or etc .... To assail the speaker based upon languages selection and assumed intent truly indicates one profound level of education on par with thang Ho. Look at what he has accomplished! Thang Ho has contributed and or caused the death of over 1+ million people and wasted 2-3 generations! For what? Current day VN is at similar x-roads, both economic and foreign policies, that VNCH had advocated overall - capitalism.

Conversely but sadly, current day CSVN society has no concrete identity to speak of. The younger generations, post '75 generations, have limited ethical and moral standards to emulate. All thanks to thang Ho and his absent minded cohorts, all uneducated peasant with minimal education. Post 1975 and the disastrous 1980s only exacerbated the pure animalistic survival instinct! The old guards are as corrupt as the children they have raised. Whose children are attending these post secondary educational institutions in the US, Austrialia, France, Canada and etc ...? CSVN society's young people, < 30 yrs. old, is influenced and copied too easily by materialism from western societies and now the early influx of Chinese and Korean branding.

Irrespectively of who won or lost, VN identity has been lost thanks to thang Ho. And that's the coup de gras.

Thử lắng nghe Một cặp t́nh nhân giận nhau đ̣i chia tay anh chàng ấm ức bấy lâu bị đ́ bèn nói:

"Sugar you you go, sugar me me go"

Nàng la lên:

"anh nghĩ anh ngon hả"

Anh ta đáp:
