LAS VEGAS, Nevada

Đảng Dân Chủ giữ được quyền kiểm soát Thượng Viện sau khi ứng cử viên đảng này, bà Catherine Cortez Masto, đương kim thượng nghị sĩ (TNS) liên bang, thắng đối thủ Cộng Ḥa, ông Adam Lazalt, cựu bộ trưởng Tư Pháp Nevada, trong cuộc bầu cử giữa nhiệm kỳ ở tiểu bang này, nhiều hăng truyền thông lớn đưa tin này vào tối thứ Bảy, 12 tháng Mười Một.

Có thêm thắng lợi của bà Masto, đảng Dân Chủ được 50 ghế, tiếp tục giữ đa số ở Thượng Viện, bất chấp kết quả tranh cử TNS ṿng hai ở Georgia vào tháng tới, nhờ Phó Tổng Thống Kamala Harris (Dân Chủ) đang nắm lá phiếu quyết định, phá vỡ thế ḥa. Đảng Cộng Ḥa hiện chỉ được 49 ghế.

Đảng Dân Chủ giữ được Thượng Viện là một thất bại đáng kể cho đảng Cộng Ḥa v́ trước đó, họ rất hi vọng sẽ giành quyền kiểm soát cả hai viện Quốc Hội sau cuộc bầu cử giữa nhiệm kỳ, mà theo lịch sử, thường có lợi cho đảng không cầm quyền. Hiện chưa chắc đảng nào sẽ nắm Hạ Viện v́ việc kiểm phiếu vẫn c̣n đang diễn ra ở một số tiểu bang quan trọng, trong đó có California.

Tuy đảng DC thắng không đậm, chỉ từ 1 đến 2 ghế ở Thượng viện. Nhưng điều khá lạc quan là phe thiểu số CH lần này có ít thành phần thân Trump hay MAGA nên TT Biden sẽ dễ dàng thương lượng cho nhiều chương tŕnh làm việc tương lai.
