CNBC - "Khi tôi tiếp lănh đạo các nước tới đây - vua, nữ hoàng, thủ tướng, tổng thống và các nhà độc tài, tôi gặp tất cả họ. Bất cứ ai muốn tới. Nhà độc tài ư? Ổn thôi. Cứ tới. Bất cứ điều ǵ tốt cho nước Mỹ. Chúng ta muốn giúp người dân của chính ḿnh", ông Trump phát biểu tại Câu lạc bộ Kinh tế New York.

Bên cạnh đó, ông Trump tự hào: "Điều đầu tiên họ nói với tôi gần như mọi lần: ‘Chúc mừng thành tựu kinh tế của ông’".

Phát biểu trên của ông Trump đi ngược lại chính sách đối ngoại nhiều thập niên qua của nước Mỹ, quốc gia vốn luôn định hướng ḿnh với vị thế lănh đạo toàn cầu, tẩy chay các nhà độc tài hay chuyên quyền.

Theo CNBC, những tuyên bố này nằm trong bài diễn văn ca ngợi các chính sách của chính quyền Trump đă giúp củng cố sức mạnh kinh tế Mỹ.

Các trích đoạn được Nhà Trắng công bố trước khi tổng thống Mỹ phát biểu đă nhấn mạnh tiến triển trong số lượng việc làm và tiền lương trong nhiệm kỳ của ông Trump.

Tuy nhiên, Nhà Trắng không xác nhận với CNBC về việc liệu những b́nh luận về các nhà độc tài của ông Trump có nằm trong nội dung phát biểu được chuẩn bị hay không.

Trước đây, Tổng thống Trump từng phát biểu rằng nhà độc tài Saddam Hussein "đă làm rất tốt" việc giết những kẻ khủng bố trong một buổi vận động tranh cử hồi tháng 7-2016.

Ông cũng tuyên bố "chúng ta sẽ tốt hơn nhiều" nếu nhà độc tài Muammar Gaddafi vẫn nắm quyền tại Libya, trong một buổi tranh luận của Đảng Cộng ḥa.

Những ai ngưỡng mộ nước Mỹ vĩ đại năm xưa, những người ṃ mẫm ḍ theo ánh đuốc Nữ Thần Tự Do để t́m đến xứ này, những ai đă từng đi xe bus t́m vô thư khố quốc gia t́m đọc bản hiến pháp được bảo bọc trong lồng kính, những ai trong mùa đông đă rút bao tay ra để rờ xuống bệ đá hoa cương trước tượng Lincoln, nghe xong chắc buồn muốn khóc.
