Ngân sách của Mỹ trong năm tài chánh 2021 bị thâm hụt ở mức $2,772 tỷ, thấp hơn mức thiếu hụt kỷ lục của năm 2020, theo công bố của Bộ Tài Chính hôm Thứ Sáu, 22 Tháng Mười.
So với năm 2020, mức thâm hụt ngân sách giảm đi $360 tỷ nhưng vẫn phản ánh một năm thứ hai liên tiếp nước Mỹ phải tung tiền để hỗ trợ các gia đình và doanh nghiệp để vượt qua đại dịch COVID-19, theo Reuters.
Ngoài việc đây là mức giảm thâm thủng ngân sách đầu tiên tính trong vòng sáu năm qua, sự sụt giảm thâm thủng của năm 2021 cho thấy viễn ảnh lạc quan hơn cho nền kinh tế Mỹ sau một năm đại dịch và đồng thời phản ánh việc phục hồi hoạt động kinh tế trong năm nay khi chích ngừa vaccine COVID-19 được đẩy mạnh.
Thêm vào đó, sụt giảm thâm thủng ngân sách năm nay cho thấy việc cứu trợ tài chính cho các gia đình Mỹ trong thời gian đại dịch giúp thúc đẩy nền kinh tế phục hồi mạnh mẽ kể từ cuộc suy thoái năm ngoái.
Bà Janet Yellen, bộ trưởng Tài Chính, tuyên bố: “Kết quả công bố tình trạng ngân sách 2021 cho thấy nền kinh tế Mỹ đang trong giai đoạn phục hồi.”
Nền kinh tế Mỹ đang trên đà tăng trưởng tới 6% trong năm nay nhờ được phục hồi từ các biện pháp cứu trợ tài chánh khẩn cấp được ban hành dưới chính quyền hiện tại của Tổng Thống Joe Biden và người tiền nhiệm thuộc đảng Cộng Hòa, cựu Tổng Thống Donald Trump.
Nhờ chương trình chích ngừa chống COVID-19 bắt đầu vào cuối Tháng Mười Hai, 2020, và sau đó được chính phủ Biden đẩy mạnh khiến các ca COVID-19 giảm mạnh từ Tháng Hai và Tháng Ba, giúp các tiểu bang nới lỏng các kế hoạch đóng cửa cách ly để nền kinh tế tái khởi động.
Đồng thời, các chương trình tài trợ của liên bang cho các gia đình và người thất nghiệp đã mở ra một làn sóng chi tiêu của người tiêu dùng khiến thúc đẩy tốc độ tăng trưởng kinh tế đạt mức gia tăng nhanh nhất kể từ những năm 1980.
