Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump đồng ư cho xét nghiệm Covid-19 và đă có kết quả xét nghiệm âm tính với virus corona mới gây bệnh viêm phổi cấp (Covid-19), Nhà Trắng thông báo.

Reuters dẫn thông cáo phát đi cuối ngày 14/3 của bác sĩ Nhà Trắng Sean P. Conley cho biết, Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump đă có kết quả âm tính với Covid-19. "Một tuần sau khi ăn tối với phái đoàn Brazil ở Mar-a-Lago, Tổng thống vẫn không có bất cứ triệu chứng nhiễm bệnh nào", thông cáo cho biết thêm.

Thông báo trên được đưa ra không lâu sau khi Tổng thống Trump cho biết tại một cuộc họp báo hôm qua rằng, ông đă làm xét nghiệm Covid-19 vào tối thứ Sáu 13/3 và kết quả sẽ có sau khoảng 1-2 ngày. Ông cũng nói rằng, thân nhiệt của ông vẫn hoàn toàn b́nh thường.

Ông Trump làm xét nghiệm sau khi ông tiếp xúc với hai quan chức Brazil mắc Covid-19 gồm ông Fabio Wajngarten, thư kư báo chí của Tổng thống Brazil, và ông Nestor Forster, Đại biện lâm thời của Brazil ở Washington. Ông Wajngarten có kết quả dương tính với Covid-19 sau khi trở về từ chuyến thăm Mỹ hồi cuối tuần trước. Ông Wajngarten đă ăn tối và chụp ảnh lưu niệm cùng Tổng thống Trump tại khu nghỉ dưỡng Mar-a-Lago.

Lư giải việc ông Trump không cần cách ly ngay cả khi tiếp xúc với người mắc Covid-19, bác sĩ Sean Conley cho biết, Tổng thống Trump chỉ có “cuộc tiếp xúc ngắn” với ông Wajngarten và ông cũng không có bất cứ triệu chứng nhiễm bệnh nào. "Các tương tác này được phân loại là có nguy cơ thấp theo hướng dẫn của Trung tâm kiểm soát và pḥng ngừa dịch bệnh Mỹ (CDC), và v́ vậy không có chỉ định nên cách ly tại nhà", bác sĩ Conley cho biết.

Động thái trên diễn ra trong bối cảnh dịch Covid-19 bắt đầu lan rộng tại Mỹ. Theo số liệu của CNN, Mỹ hiện ghi nhận 2.655 ca Covid-19, trong đó 56 người đă tử vong và chủ yếu ở bang Washington.

Tổng thống Trump hôm qua đă ban bố t́nh trạng khẩn cấp quốc gia do Covid-19 nhằm mở đường cho việc phẩn bổ ngân sách liên bang cho các hoạt động ứng phó dịch. Ông Trump hôm qua cũng quyết định mở rộng lệnh cấm đi lại với cả Anh và Ireland sau khi áp biện pháp này với 26 quốc gia châu Âu nhằm ngăn dịch lan rộng.
