Nhập cư bất hợp pháp khiến Mỹ thiệt hại hàng tỷ USD

Nhập cư bất hợp pháp đang đè nặng lên ví tiền của những người đóng thuế làm việc chăm chỉ ở Mỹ tiêu tốn số tiền lên tới hàng trăm tỷ USD mỗi năm. Tuy nhiên, chính phủ Tổng thống Biden vẫn nhắm mắt làm ngơ trước những vấn đề căng thẳng tài khóa này, bỏ qua những tổn thất đối với nền kinh tế của chúng ta, tính toàn vẹn về cấu trúc của quốc gia chúng ta, và sự an toàn cho công dân của chúng ta.

Các ước tính cho thấy những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp khiến mỗi gia đình thiệt hại khoảng 1,000 USD, tổng cộng lên tới hơn 120 tỷ USD mỗi năm. Các nguồn tin như Newsweek gợi ý rằng chi phí thực sự có thể còn cao hơn, có thể lên tới 150 tỷ USD hàng năm, một con số được chia sẻ giữa cả chính phủ liên bang và tiểu bang. Trên thực tế, tác động tài chính có thể còn tồi tệ hơn nhiều.

Tình hình tiếp tục xấu đi từng ngày. Chỉ trong tháng 12 vừa qua, lực lượng Tuần tra Biên giới đã ghi nhận 249,785 vụ bắt giữ dọc biên giới Mexico, tăng 31% so với tháng 11/2023 và tăng 13% so với kỷ lục vào tháng 12/2022.





Kể từ khi Tổng thống Joe Biden nhậm chức và áp dụng cách tiếp cận biên giới mở của ông, hơn 7.2 triệu người nhập cư bất hợp pháp đã tràn vào Hoa Kỳ qua biên giới phía nam, một con số vượt qua dân số của 36 tiểu bang. Một số người ước tính con số đó có thể lên tới gần 10 triệu. Tình trạng vô luật pháp khiến việc thống kê chính xác không thể thực hiện được.

Hậu quả của việc nhập cư bất hợp pháp đã phủ bóng đen lên nhiều khía cạnh khác nhau của xã hội chúng ta, từ tỷ lệ tội phạm tăng cao đến mức lương bị giảm cho đến sự cạn kiệt nguồn lực của người đóng thuế. Các dịch vụ công phải đối mặt với căng thẳng khi những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp tiếp cận dịch vụ chăm sóc sức khỏe khẩn cấp, ghi danh cho con họ vào các trường công lập, và tận dụng các chương trình phúc lợi xã hội. Một số người cho rằng việc người nhập cư bất hợp pháp sẵn sàng chấp nhận mức lương thấp hơn đã làm giảm thu nhập, dẫn đến giảm doanh thu từ thuế và tăng sự phụ thuộc vào các chương trình phúc lợi xã hội của những người lao động, công dân, và cư dân hợp pháp có mức lương thấp. Ngay cả thuế tài sản của chúng ta cũng đang trả cho những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp. Vấn đề mang tính thế hệ này đòi hỏi sự cân nhắc thực tế và sự lãnh đạo có năng lực.





Vấn đề càng trở nên nghiêm trọng hơn nếu những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp chỉ sinh sống bằng các giao dịch tiền mặt, với phần lớn thu nhập của họ là không có giấy tờ.

Đây là lý do tại sao tôi ủng hộ các biện pháp như Đạo luật Thuế Công bằng, thay thế thuế thu nhập bằng thuế tiêu dùng, bảo đảm doanh thu từ giao dịch tiền mặt sẽ bị đánh thuế. Trong khi những người ủng hộ họ cho rằng những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp đang phải trả tiền vào hệ thống thuế, và thậm chí cả hệ thống An sinh Xã hội của chúng ta, thì thật khó để phân biệt sự khác biệt giữa sự thật và hư cấu.


Theo bài báo năm 2023 của Cục Nghiên cứu Kinh tế Quốc gia (Tài liệu Làm việc số 31086, “Đo lường Đặc điểm và Động lực Việc làm của các Nhà phát minh Hoa Kỳ”), phần lớn sự đổi mới ở Mỹ là do các cá nhân da trắng và Á Châu (bao gồm cả người Ấn Độ) thúc đẩy. Bài báo ước tính rằng 96.5% các nhà phát minh Hoa Kỳ là người da trắng hoặc người Á Châu tính đến năm 2016.


Câu hỏi vẫn là: Tại sao chúng ta lại để cho những người nhập cư bất hợp pháp tràn vào biên giới của mình khi chúng ta cần việc nhập cư có kiểm soát và có chiến thuật để bù đắp cho hệ thống xã hội đang cạn kiệt của mình và khởi động được làn sóng đổi mới tiếp theo? Tại sao Hoa Kỳ cấm những nhân viên có giá trị trở thành công dân Mỹ khi họ có thị thực lao động nhưng vẫn lôi kéo những người lao động phổ thông và nghèo khó vào đất nước này và ở lại một cách bất hợp pháp?


Những câu hỏi chưa được trả lời này chỉ đổ thêm dầu vào ngọn lửa của những âm mưu và toan tính.

Ưu tiên cấp thị thực cho nhân viên tay nghề cao sẽ không chỉ củng cố các sáng kiến trong nước của chúng ta mà còn kích thích sự đổi mới và thúc đẩy tăng trưởng kinh tế.


Thật là quá khó hiểu khi Hợp chủng quốc Hoa Kỳ tiếp tục chào đón những người lao động phổ thông khi sự thịnh vượng của đất nước chúng ta lại phụ thuộc vào sự đổi mới và nhân viên lành nghề. Việc thái độ miễn cưỡng sử dụng thuật ngữ “người nhập cư bất hợp pháp” của Đảng Dân Chủ được thể hiện lặp lại trên những nhân vật như bà Nikki Haley cũng khó hiểu không kém. Như Thống đốc tiểu bang Florida Ron DeSantis đã nêu lên một cách đúng đắn, việc đến đất nước này bất hợp pháp là bất hợp pháp.

Chúng ta cần đẩy nhanh tiến độ nhập cư cho những người có khả năng đổi mới và tạo ra sự giàu có thay vì ưu tiên những người lao động có tay nghề thấp. Đã đến lúc nền lãnh đạo có trách nhiệm đẩy mạnh và thực hiện các chính sách nhập cư có lợi cho Hoa Kỳ và người dân Mỹ.

Illegal immigration now costs taxpayers billions of dollars a year.

The open border also has allowed Mexican drug cartels and many on the terrorist watchlist to cross into the country unimpeded.

When the federal government fails to secure our borders and jeopardizes our national security, the responsibility falls on states to protect themselves.

As record numbers of illegal aliens continue to flood across our southern border, they are being dispersed into every congressional district in the country, making every state a border state. We’re told they’re merely coming to seek a better life. And while that’s true for many, why do open-borders advocates ignore the enormous toll on Americans that comes in the form of higher taxes, overloaded emergency rooms, increased crime in their communities, and overcrowded classrooms for their children?

This is the first in a series of articles covering the heavy financial and human toll that illegal immigration is taking on the states and their citizens.

Annually, illegal immigration now costs taxpayers billions of dollars a year. For instance, in states far away from the southern border like Illinois, that cost was $4.59 billion in 2022. That’s $930 per household. Every year.

The far-reaching effects of the influx through our southern border are clear. Our communities bear the costs of illegal immigration caused by the Biden administration’s anti-enforcement and open border policies.

Border communities have long been overwhelmed under these policies. The crisis now costs California $21.76 billion and Texas $8.88 billion annually in education, health care, law enforcement and criminal justice system costs, welfare expenditures, and more. Border states are often the subject of shocking reports of epidemics of violent attacks, taxpayers footing the bill for illegal aliens’ health care costs, and increased property destruction.

However, there is more to the story. Considering the droves of illegal aliens the government is settling throughout the country and the sheer number already in the interior of the U.S.—an estimated 15.5 million in 2021—let’s consider a few examples of the specific, ever-increasing costs to communities and states all across the nation.

At a rate of $65,116 per alien, New York City Mayor Eric Adams estimates his city will need to spend $2.8 billion in the next fiscal year to deal with the rapid influx.

In 2023, New Jersey will spend $15 million just to provide health care benefits to illegal alien children.

As of September 2022, Operation Lone Star—a statewide effort by Texas to decrease illegal crossings and crack down on human and drug trafficking—had cost Texas over $4 billion. That averages about $2.5 million per week.

As of July 2022, Colorado was on track to spend $12 million per year in state and local government benefits, professional licenses, and business permits for illegal aliens.

In March 2022, Oregon passed legislation establishing the Universal Representation Fund, providing $15 million in “free” legal services and representation for illegal aliens, primarily those facing deportation.

Even beyond the economic costs, there are sobering human costs associated with heightened crime levels.

After being on the decline for years, because of President Joe Biden’s open-border policies, crimes committed by illegal aliens have skyrocketed over the past two years in virtually every category, including homicide and manslaughter, robbery and theft, sexual offenses, and weapons and drug trafficking.

It is impossible to put a price tag on the devastation to families and communities that crimes perpetrated by illegal aliens bring. In 2022 alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested 1,142 illegal aliens who were convicted of assault, battery, or domestic violence; 1,614 who were convicted of driving under the influence; and 2,239 who were convicted of drug possession and trafficking. Additionally, CBP arrested 62 illegal aliens convicted of homicide or manslaughter and 365 convicted of sexual offenses.

In total in 2022, CBP arrested 12,028 illegal aliens who had been convicted for various crimes.

The open border also has allowed Mexican drug cartels and many on the terrorist watchlist to cross into the country unimpeded.

Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that over 71,000 lives were lost to fentanyl overdoses in 2021, with all of that fentanyl coming from south of the border.

The border crisis is unsustainable and dangerous. And these extraordinary financial and human costs are avoidable with a secure border.

Not only does the Biden administration refuse to change course, but it constantly finds more ways to deceive the public and escape responsibility as it knowingly, purposely perpetuates the crisis and allows a record high number of illegal entries every month.

From Day One in office, Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have all but eliminated border and interior immigration enforcement, doing away with 89 previously successful border policies within their first year in office and dropping the number of illegal aliens detained from 11,000 to 3,000 per month—the lowest number since 1999 (even as we see the highest numbers of aliens illegally entering the country ever recorded).

Instead, they have continually shifted resources to processing more and more illegal aliens to get them into the country. In this fiscal year’s budget, the administration added 300 Border Patrol agents at a cost of $65 million, with their assigned functions now often centering around processing and caring for illegal immigrants at the border rather than arresting and deporting them. They also added 300 Border Patrol processing coordinators at a cost of $23 million and a new Joint Processing Center on the border at a cost of $140 million.

As Mayorkas claims that they have “operational control” of the border and Vice President Kamala Harris says the “border is secure,” we have seen over 6 million known illegal crossing encounters and “gotaways” under the two years of this administration’s watch. While lying to the public, they turn around and pull stunts like a new parole shell game in an effort to hide the true number of illegal immigrants coming into the country.

In the end, when the federal government fails to secure our borders and jeopardizes our national security, the responsibility falls on states to protect themselves.

There is one piece of good news—by tightening state laws requiring proof of citizenship or proof of lawful status for things like receiving public benefits and employment, enabling law enforcement to more effectively protect communities, and more—states can legally and effectively disincentivize illegal immigration within their own borders to spare their citizens the human and economic toll that such immigration brings.

Rather than leaving states to fend entirely for themselves and drown in a crisis this president created, the Biden administration must also step up and take on its responsibility to safeguard our nation’s borders and the American people. We don’t have a country if we don’t have a border. And no nation can afford an open border and a welfare state.

As we continually watch the costs of illegal immigration for states, communities, and the American taxpayers rise, Congress and the American people must hold the Biden administration to account; defund its radical, open-border operations; and restore known, successful policies to secure our border and our country.
