Old  Arrow Nghị sĩ Cộng hoà xông vào phiên điều trần của đảng Dân chủ
Nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa xông vào pḥng điều trần kín về Trump. Lời khai của nhân chứng v́ việc này bị tŕ hoăn. Hơn 20 người xông vào khi phiên điều trần của đảng Dân chủ đang diễn ra.

Laura Cooper, một quan chức Bộ quốc pḥng Mỹ phụ trách các vấn đề Nga và Ukraine, hôm 23/10 chuẩn bị ra làm chứng tại phiên điều trần của đảng Dân chủ. Tuy nhiên, phiên điều trần bị xáo trộn và tŕ hoăn khoảng 4 giờ khi hơn 20 nghị sĩ đảng Cộng ḥa xông vào pḥng họp kín, la hét và ủng hộ Tổng thống.

"Người dân Mỹ phải có tiếng nói trong quá tŕnh luận tội này. Họ có quyền được biết. Nó nên được đưa ra ánh sáng", nghị sĩ đảng Cộng ḥa và lănh đạo thiểu số Hạ viện Kevin McCarthy nói. Các nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa cũng mô tả các nỗ lực nhằm luận tội Tổng thống của đảng Dân chủ là không công bằng.

Cuộc điều tra luận tội do các ủy ban Hạ viện tiến hành xoay quanh điện đàm hồi tháng 7 giữa Trump và Tổng thống Ukraine Zelensky. Trong điện đàm, Trump được cho là đă hối thúc Zelensky điều tra Joe Biden, ứng viên hàng đầu của đảng Dân chủ trong cuộc đua vào Nhà Trắng năm 2020. Các ủy ban Hạ viện do đảng Dân chủ lănh đạo cáo buộc Tổng thống lạm dụng quyền lực nhằm phục vụ cho các mục đích chính trị cá nhân.

Ted Lieu, nghị sĩ Dân chủ chỉ trích việc các nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa xông vào phiên điều trần. "Họ đă khiến mọi người hoảng sợ. Họ đang cố ngăn cuộc điều tra này. Họ biết khi sự thật được phơi bày th́ sẽ bất lợi cho Tổng thống", Lieu nói.

Một nhân chứng có mặt trong pḥng điều trần cho biết các nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa đă phạm quy pḥng họp quốc hội khi từ chối bỏ điện thoại bên ngoài. Chủ tịch Ủy ban T́nh báo Hạ viện Adam Schiff cho rằng hành động của các nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa nhằm ngăn chặn lời khai của nhân chứng. "Nhưng họ sẽ không thành công", Schiff nói.

Tổng thống Mỹ đầu tuần này kêu gọi các thành viên đảng Cộng ḥa "cứng rắn hơn" và "chiến đấu" để bảo vệ ông trong cuộc điều tra luận tội của đảng Dân chủ.

"Đảng Dân chủ có hai thứ: sự xấu xa và đoàn kết. Họ cũng không có những người như Mitt Romney", Trump nói trong cuộc họp nội các hôm 21/10, đề cập đến thượng nghị sĩ Cộng ḥa Romney, người thường xuyên phê b́nh thẳng thắn Trump và gọi việc Trump đề nghị Ukraine, Trung Quốc điều tra Biden là "khủng khiếp".

John Kelly says he told Trump, 'don't hire a 'yes man'' or 'you will be impeached'

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly said that before he left the White House last year, he warned President Donald Trump not to hire a replacement who wouldn't tell him the truth or that he would be impeached, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday.

Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, said during an interview at the Sea Island Summit political conference hosted by the Washington Examiner this weekend that if he had stayed on as chief of staff, Trump wouldn't be in the midst of the current impeachment inquiry, implying that White House advisers could have prevented it.

"I said, whatever you do — and we were still in the process of trying to find someone to take my place — I said whatever you do, don't hire a 'yes man,' someone who won't tell you the truth — don't do that," Kelly said. "Because if you do, I believe you will be impeached."
