Ba thành viên cao cấp trong đội đặc nhiệm chống coronavirus của Ṭa Bạch ốc, kể cả bác sĩ Anthony Fauci, đă tự cách ly sau khi tiếp xúc với một người nào đó dương tính với Covid-19 – một sự kiện nữa cho thấy ṭa dinh thự an toàn nhất nước chưa hẳn đă miễn nhiễm với virus.

Bác sĩ Fauci là giám đốc Viện quốc gia Bệnh Truyền nhiễm và Dị ứng (NIAID), là thành viên lănh đạo đội đặc nhiệm và được cả nước tin cậy qua những lời giải thích giản dị và thẳng thắn về đại dịch cho công chúng. Cũng tự cách ly c̣n có bác sĩ Robert Redfield, giám đốc Trung tâm Kiểm soát và Pḥng bệnh (CDC) và bác sĩ Stephen Hahn, phụ trách Cơ quan quản lư Thực phẩm và Dược phẩm (FDA).

Viện NIAID nói bác sĩ Fauci đă xét nghiệm âm tính với virus và sẽ tiếp tục được xét nghiệm thường xuyên. Ông vẫn tiếp tục nhiệm vụ của ḿnh và “có những biện pháp đề pḥng thích hợp” để giảm rủi ro qua tiếp xúc cá nhân. Ông sẽ làm việc ở nhà và chỉ vào Ṭa Bạch ốc khi được yêu cầu.

Bác sĩ Robert Redfield của CDC “sẽ làm việc từ xa trong hai tuần” sau khi ông có tiếp xúc với một người ở Ṭa Bạch ốc, CDC cho biết vào tối thứ Bảy 09-05 và nói ông cảm thấy sức khỏe tốt và không có triệu chứng.

Vài giờ trước, cơ quan FDA xác nhận ông Stephen Hahn đă tiếp xúc với một người được xét nghiệm dương tính; bản thân ông Hahn được xét nghiệm âm tính song ông sẽ tự cách ly trong hai tuần.

Ba nhân vật nổi bật này có kế hoạch ra điều trần trước một ủy ban của Thượng viện vào thứ Ba tới, song Thượng nghị sĩ Lamar Alexander (Cộng ḥa, Tennessee), chủ tịch ủy ban nói Ṭa Bạch ốc đồng ư để ông Redfield và ông Hahn điều trần qua điện thoại truyền h́nh. Thông báo này được đưa ra trước khi có tin ông Fauci cũng tự cách ly.

Trước đó, cô Katie Miller, thư kư báo chí của Phó tổng thống Mike Pence xét nghiệm dương tính với coronavirus hôm thứ Sáu, là người thứ hai làm việc ở Ṭa Bạch ốc bị nhiễm virus, sau một sĩ quan quân đội làm cần vụ cho Tổng thống Trump được xét nghiện dương tính hôm thứ Tư.

Tổng thống Donald Trump nói ông “không lo lắng nhiều” về việc virus lây lan trong Ṭa Bạch ốc, nhưng các quan chức cho biết nghi thức an toàn ở dinh thự này đă được nâng cao để đề pḥng.

CDC và FDA không tiết lộ danh tính người bị nhiễm virus đă tiếp xúc với các ông Redfield và Hahn.
