Hồi kư của cựu Tổng thống Barack Obama lập kỷ lục trong ngày phát hành. Đó là cuốn “Miền đất hứa” (A Promised Land)trong ngày đầu tiên ra mắt, đă bán được 890.000 bản tại Mỹ và Canada.

Phát biểu ngày 18/11, ông David Drake, Giám đốc Nhà xuất bản Penguin Random House – đơn vị phát hành cuốn hồi kư, cho biết số lượng đầu sách bán ra bao gồm cả đơn đặt hàng trước, bản điện tử và phát thanh. Ông khẳng định doanh số ngày đầu là tín hiệu rất vui mừng và nó cho thấy độc giả đặc biệt hứng khởi với cuốn hồi kư được ông Obama viết theo một cách đặc biệt, được người đọc kỳ vọng nhiều.

Tính đến trưa 18/11 (giờ Mỹ), “Miền đất hứa” là cuốn sách được đặt mua nhiều nhất trên Amazon và hệ thống nhà sách Barnes & Noble. Giám đốc điều hành Barnes & Noble James Daunt tiết lộ, chuỗi nhà sách này đă bán được 50.000 bản trong ngày đầu tiên và hy vọng sẽ sớm cán mốc 500.000 bản trong 10 ngày tới.

Cuốn sách duy nhất của một cựu “công dân Nhà Trắng” đạt được doanh số gần tương đương với “Miền đất hứa” chính là hồi kư “Chất Michelle” (Becoming) của cựu Đệ nhất phu nhân Michelle Obama, với lượng bán ra trong ngày đầu tiên đạt 725.000 bản tại khu vực Bắc Mỹ và đă vượt 10 triệu bản kể từ thời điểm phát hành năm 2018.

Hồi kư “Miền đất hứa” dài 768 trang, có giá 45 USD/quyển. Thời điểm phát hành không thể phù hợp hơn đối với cả độc giả lẫn nhà xuất bản. Sách được bán ra thị trường đúng hai tuần sau Ngày bầu cử Tổng thống Mỹ. Đến lúc này, cuộc bầu cử vẫn chưa có kết quả chính thức, dù ông Joe Biden, người từng là phó tướng của ông Obama, được truyền thông Mỹ xác định là người chiến thắng.
