According to authorities, a parolee who was wanted by the police shot and injured three Los Angeles police officers during a confrontation on Wednesday evening in the Lincoln Heights area. The officers, who were members of the K-9 dog-handling unit, were hospitalized in stable condition.
The suspect barricaded himself in a shed and refused to surrender when police officers found him. The officers used a gas "chemical agent" to try and force him to surrender, but he opened fire on the officers instead. The police department issued a citywide tactical alert, and officers from across the city responded to the scene.
The standoff ended after several hours, and the suspect was found dead at the scene. It is not clear whether he was shot by police or took his own life. The officers involved are expected to make a full recovery, and the incident is being investigated.
