Ngày 22/10, Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump tuyên bố sẽ cắt giảm viện trợ đối với Guatemala, Honduras và El Salvador v́ một đoàn người di cư lớn đang tiến về biên giới Mỹ.

Trên mạng xă hội Twitter, Tổng thống Donald Trump đă nói đoàn di cư này là t́nh trạng khẩn cấp quốc gia. Theo đó, ông cũng đă báo động lực lượng tuần tra và quân đội nước này chuẩn bị sẵn sàng cho khả năng đối đầu khi ḍng người di cư này tiến về biên giới.

Nhà lănh đạo Mỹ nêu rơ Washington sẽ bắt đầu cắt giảm, hoặc giảm mạnh viện trợ nước ngoài cho ba quốc gia Trung Phi trên. Ông Trump cũng bày tỏ thất vọng khi cảnh sát và quân đội Mexico đă không thể chặn được đoàn người di cư, mà ông cho là lẫn cả tội phạm, đang hướng đến biên giới phía Nam của nước Mỹ.

Hiện chưa rơ Tổng thống Mỹ sẽ có hành động chính thức nào nhằm thúc đẩy hoạt động quân sự hoặc tuần tra biên giới tại khu vực trên.

Trước đó, ngày 21/10, đoàn người di cư gồm khảng 4.000 người Honduras sau khi vượt qua biên giới Guatemala đă đổ vào thành phố Tapachula, bang Chiapas, miền Nam Mexico, để tiếp tục hành tŕnh tới Mỹ.

Đoàn người di cư trái phép sẽ di chuyển tới Trung tâm Tập trung và cứu trợ Feria Mesoamericana nằm bên ngoài thành phố Tapachula, cách biên giới Guatemala khoảng 32km về phía Tây Bắc. Những người này bắt đầu xuất phát từ thị trấn San Pedro Sula của Honduras khoảng 1 tuần trước và số lượng đă tăng mạnh sau khi đi qua Guatemala.

Các cơ quan chức năng, tổ chức Chữ thập Đỏ và các tổ chức nhân quyền Mexico đă theo sát để đảm bảo trật tự, an toàn và quyền lợi của đoàn người di cư.
