Ủy ban Tư pháp Thượng viện Mỹ hôm 12/10 bắt đầu bốn ngày điều trần chuẩn thuận ứng viên thẩm phán Ṭa án Tối cao Coney Barrett, theo Reuters.

Phiên điều trần đầu tiên nhằm chuẩn thuận bà Barrett, thẩm phán ṭa phúc thẩm được Tổng thống Trump lựa chọn để thay thế cố thẩm phán Ruth Bader Ginsburg, bắt đầu với các tuyên bố khai mạc của các thượng nghị sĩ.


Ứng viên Coney Barrett tại Thượng viện Mỹ hôm 12/10.

Ứng viên được Reuters nói là có quan điểm bảo thủ phát biểu sau khi 22 thành viên của ủy ban trên lên tiếng.

Tin cho hay, bà Barrett sẽ đối mặt với các câu hỏi từ các thượng nghị sĩ vào hai ngày 13 và 14/10.

“Đây sẽ là một tuần dài, đầy tranh căi,” Thượng nghị sĩ Đảng Cộng ḥa Lindsey Graham, chủ tịch ủy ban, nói, cho rằng “cả thế giới đang theo dơi”.

Theo Reuters, bà Barrett đeo khẩu trang màu đen và ngồi bàn đối diện với các thượng nghị sĩ. Chồng và bảy người con của bà ngồi phía sau và cũng đeo khẩu trang.

Hăng tin Anh nói rằng phe Dân chủ lên án nỗ lực chuẩn thuận bà Barrett ít tuần trước khi diễn ra cuộc bầu cử tổng thống ngày 3/11.

Theo Reuters, ông Graham thừa nhận rằng v́ phe Cộng ḥa chiếm thế đa số 53-47 tại Thượng viện nên việc chuẩn thuận ứng viên thẩm phán Ṭa án Tối cao dường như là điều chắc chắn.

Bạn có tự hỏi tại sao đảng cộng ḥa lại nắm đa số ở thượng viện ? những người này do ai bầu ra ?

Nếu do dân bầu ra và lại nhiều đến độ nắm đa số ở thượng viện th́ đảng dân chủ đừng nên oán trách điều ǵ khi ở thế thua.
