Cộng Ḥa sững sốt: giới trẻ Georgia rủ nhau đi bầu chung kết sắp tới cho 2 chức Thượng nghị sĩ vào ngày 5/1/2021.


Cuộc tranh cử vài tuần tới sẽ quyết định Cộng Ḥa hay Dân Chủ chiếm đa số ở Thượng Viện liên bang: Hai Thượng nghị sĩ Cộng Ḥa đương nhiệm là David Perdue và Kelly Loeffler đối diện với 2 ứng cử viên Dân Chủ Jon Ossoff và Raphael Warnock đang muốn bứng 2 ghế kia để giành đa số Thượng Viện cho Dân Chủ.

Nhiều sinh viên đại học Emory University đang rủ nhau gơ cửa từng nhà để tuyên truyền cho chính sách của Dân Chủ, kêu gọi người dân ghi danh cử tri, và giải thích rằng chính sách của Cộng Ḥa chỉ giảm thuế cho nhữn người rất giàu, trong khi cắt bỏ bảo hiểm y tế ObamaCare của dân nghèo, và Cộng Ḥa luôn luôn là hang ổ của tin giả khi chụp mũ Dân Chủ là Cộng sản nằm vùng.

Cô Katarina Flicker, sinh viên năm thứ 3 ở Emory University, quyết định nghỉ học trọn mùa thu để giúp sinh viên và mọi người ghi danh cử tri. Cô đang làm việc với nhóm Young Democrats of Emory để vận động tranh 2 ghế Thượng nghị sĩ về cho Dân Chủ sẽ bầu trong 4 tuần tới.

Thống kê của viện Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (của Đại học Tufts University) ước tính rằng giới trẻ đi bầu năm 2020 vượt hơn 50%, vượt xa đi bầu 2016. Trong khi tại Georgia, cử tri tuổi 18-29 đi bầu trong Ngày Bầu Cử 3/11/2020, có tới 56% bầu cho Biden, và 43 bầu cho Trump.

Theo NBC, trong tổng tuyển cử, cử tri tuổi 18-29 chiếm 20% tổng số cử tri Georgia. Và ngày bầu cử 5/1/2021 sắp tới, giới trẻ 2 đảng đang chạy đua vận động -- tuy nhiên, đa số vẫn là khuynh hướng Dân Chủ, và cuộc chiến này đang được theo dơi gắt gao hôm nay, đêm Thứ Bảy 5/12/2020, khi Trump tới xin phiếu cho 2 ứng viên Cộng Ḥa, nhưng có thể sẽ nổi hứng mắng chửi Thống Đốc đă không chèn ép được nhiều phiếu bên Dân Chủ --- thực ra, quy định mới thảo luận đầu tuần này về căn cước có h́nh sẽ làm nhiều người gặp khó khăn khi ghi danh, nhưng chưa rơ quy định này sẽ áp dụng khi nào.
